Meet Miss P

Miss P does not simply arrive.

She makes an entrance.

Her wings shimmer in iridescent shades of sapphire blue, catching the light as she moves through The Lantern Library as though every room has been waiting for her specifically.

She would not disagree with this interpretation.

Miss P can often be found fluttering through the garden, moving from rose to lavender to foxglove in search of the next suitable place to land. Suitable, in her opinion, means beautiful, properly lit, and worthy of being improved by her presence.

She is a butterfly, after all.

Standards are important.

Miss P is filled with sass, but it arrives layered in enough Southern charm that one may not realize they have been corrected until several moments later.

“Well, sugar,” she may say, settling delicately upon a flower, “that is certainly one way of doing it”.

The pause that follows usually contains the rest of her opinion.

Miss P has very clear ideas about how things ought to go.

Entrances should be noticed.

Flowers should be appreciated.

Tea should be served before a conversation becomes unnecessarily serious.

And no butterfly should ever be described as being chased when she is quite obviously leading a procession.

Bella has accepted this.

More or less.

Miss P enjoys conversation, especially when it contains beauty, transformation, or the opportunity to remind someone that becoming does not require apology. She understands change intimately. She knows what it means to disappear from view, surrender an old form, and emerge as something the world could not have predicted.

She also knows that transformation need not make a person solemn.

One may grow wings and still enjoy a little attention.

Miss P is affectionate, observant, and rarely uncertain about her own worth. She will offer encouragement when it is needed, honesty when it is overdue, and a gentle but unmistakable correction when someone has forgotten their manners.

She never raises her voice.

She has never needed to.

Should you notice a flash of sapphire crossing the garden, take a moment to admire it.

Miss P almost certainly intended you to.

And should she land nearby and begin with, “Now, darlin’…”
